How to Find Products That Sell on Etsy — Read Demand, Don’t Guess

By DSPX · July 22, 2026

The single biggest reason new Etsy products fail: they were chosen by guessing. “I like this, so buyers will too.” Sometimes that works. Usually it doesn’t. The sellers who win read demand before they make anything.

The four signals that matter

  • Rising demand. Is interest in this niche growing or fading? A term climbing week over week beats a bigger term that peaked a year ago.
  • Favorites & views momentum. Listings gaining favorites fast show buyer intent building. (Important: favorites and views are demand signals, not sales — never trust a tool that hands you a confident “sales volume” number Etsy doesn’t publish.)
  • Supply growth = competition. If thousands of new listings flood a term every week, you’re late. A healthy opening has rising demand but supply you can still stand out in.
  • Price band. Look at the 25th–75th percentile price. Can you land in that band and still make margin after fees?

What real demand looks like

Demand shifts constantly. In our live Etsy market index we watch terms move every week — some climb fast off a small base (an emerging niche worth testing early), others are enormous but slowing (a crowded term where you’ll drown). A term with 150,000+ listings and still-growing supply is a fight; a smaller term with sharp week-over-week growth and thin competition is an opening. The number alone tells you nothing — the direction and the supply around it tell you everything.

Pinterest is a useful early-warning system too: buyers pin before they buy, so a theme surging on Pinterest often signals Etsy demand forming before it peaks in Etsy search.

A simple method

  • Start from rising demand, not from “what you feel like making.”
  • Filter to terms where supply isn’t already exploding.
  • Confirm the price band leaves margin after Etsy’s fees.
  • Test fast, launch small, and let the data pick your winners.
Let the market do the scouting. DSPX Market Intelligence samples the live Etsy market nightly and labels every number honestly, and Niche Radar surfaces openings automatically — rising demand with beatable supply — with the real listings and price bands attached as proof.

Guessing is a lottery ticket. Reading demand is a strategy. Do the second one.
